Damian – RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat Crew at Teddington Lifeboat Station
I grew up on the Isle of Man, where the community’s RNLI lifeboat stations are well-known. I have always wanted to volunteer, so with the changes that the pandemic brought to my working patterns, I finally had the opportunity. I joined Teddington Lifeboat Station during the pandemic and have been a volunteer lifeboat crew member ever since.
It is great to give something back to the community, help others and make a contribution that gives benefit to people in the capital. The RNLI is a fantastic organisation to be part of, and I enjoy working with some great people, from my crewmates to trainers, water safety volunteers, and local fundraisers.

More about RNLI in London
RNLI has over 230 operational volunteers in London, and they are supported by 600 engagement volunteers who fundraise and deliver water safety messages across the capital.
RNLI lifeboats have been operating on the Thames since 2 January 2002 from their lifeboat stations at Chiswick, Teddington, Tower and Gravesend, responding to nearly 1,000 callouts annually. Last year, they had 947 launches, aided 263 people, and saved 24 lives.
