Sue – Havering Volunteer Centre

This is Sue! Sue retired in 2020, after working at Havering Sixth Form College in the finance office for 21 years. She had previously worked as a school meals supervisor with London Borough of Dagenham and in the past she ran both Brownie Guide and Cub Scout packs.

When Sue retired, she said that she just felt like she needed to do something; volunteering was that something!

Covid-19 delayed Sue’s initial interest in joining SSAFA but when the Havering vaccination sites were set up, she saw this as a fantastic opportunity to do something for her community. She joined the Havering Volunteer Centre vaccination site volunteer team. She undertook many hours of volunteering; welcoming people to the site and directing them to the right area. Once the call for support at the vaccination site ended, it became time to look for something new.

Sue came back to Havering Volunteer Centre for a different type of volunteering and now volunteers her time at Queen’s Hospital as a Refreshment Volunteer on the Sunflower Suite.
