International Volunteer Day 2024

Happy International Volunteer Day!

International Volunteer Day is a UN initiative mandated in 1985 to acknowledge the service of volunteers around the world and is celebrated on 5 December annually. The theme for 2024 is “Every moment matters”

Vision & Action Plan for Volunteering

This year we are very happy to announce the release of the draft London Vision and Action Plan for Volunteering!

The ‘Vision 4 Volunteering for London’ is part of the national campaign’ A vision4Volunteering’ which was led by a national collaboration of sector leaders including NCVO, Volunteering Matters, and the Department of Culture Media and Sport.

The aim of the campaign is to create an environment where volunteers can flourish and volunteering can be sustained for future generations.

The action plan sets out what the future of volunteering will look like, and we finally get to see the first draft!

    Our 2nd birthday

International Volunteer Day also marks London’s Lifelines’ second birthday!

We’ve spent two incredible years advocating for London’s volunteering community. Help us celebrate by checking out some of our favourite moments from the past few years.

    Volunteer recognition

Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor of London for Communities & Social Justice, visited some volunteers in celebration of International Volunteer Day!

Debbie visited the Warm Space ‘NightCap’ at Chestnut Community Centre, which is part of the Haringey Warm Space Scheme. Debbie met with volunteers who shared their stories and told her more about their amazing volunteering activities. She even joined in with some dancing and had some food with volunteers.

    Winter volunteering

Feeling inspired? Get involved in some volunteering this winter!

We have created a list of some of the best winter volunteering opportunities, all in one place!
