Our 2nd birthday!
Happy birthday to us!
This International Volunteer Day is our second birthday here at London’s Lifelines!
Join us in celebrating by looking back at just a few of the things we’ve done over the past few years.
Where we’ve been…
Telling your stories
The London’s Lifelines campaign started from the idea to share and celebrate the stories of volunteers throughout London.
We wanted to shine a light on everything that volunteers do for our city and give others the opportunity to get inspired by the power of volunteering.
Since then, we have given a platform to an incredible 114 different volunteers. We’ve absolutely loved hearing and reading about all the different journeys people have had into the volunteering world, and hope to discover many more in the future!
If you would like to share your story, you can do so here.
For volunteers, by volunteers
Our first film was a particularly special one because it was made with the help of London’s volunteers!
We wanted to make something for volunteers, by volunteers. So, with help from Filmanthropy, we ran a series of filming workshops where volunteers became filmmakers, running a film set and interviewing each other about their volunteering experiences!
You can watch the results below.
Films galore!
Once we made one film, you could say we got a taste for it. We went on to make many other films to promote and celebrate volunteering.
We visited Volunteer Centre Sutton, Living Under One Sun, Shrewsbury House and even Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to talk to volunteers about their experiences!
Here are just a few of the films we’ve made over the last few years:
Everything you need
While we were busy collecting stories and making films, we also spent a lot of time transforming our website into a hub of resources for current and future volunteers!
We understand that the volunteering world can seem big and daunting at first, so we have made plenty of new pages and blogs on all things volunteering. Some examples include:
If this is your first time here, feel free to explore, there’s lots to discover!
Where we’re going…
As we look to the future, we’re excited about what we see! This International Volunteer Day also marks the release of the first draft of the London Vision and Action Plan for Volunteering, which will transform volunteering across the capital.
The action plan is the first step in making volunteering more accessible and valued, and promises to get even more people involved in the powerful world of volunteering!
A big thank you to all our supporters for making the last two years possible. We believe that volunteers have the power to transform London and its communities for the better, so keep on volunteering!
