Volunteers' Week 40th Anniversary

Volunteers’ Week (3-9 June) gives us a special opportunity to do what we do best – celebrate volunteers!

Volunteering is a vital lifeline for London and the people that live here. We always strive to get more people into volunteering, which has so many benefits for both communities and individuals.

2024 marks 40 years of Volunteers’ Week, which is run by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and partners. So much has changed in the past 40 years, but volunteering has remained a stable lifeline that we hope will stick around for a long time to come.

Stay tuned as we continue to update this page throughout the coming weeks with interesting volunteer stories, videos, and celebrations!

If you’d like to stay updated on our activities throughout Volunteers’ Week and beyond, sign up to our mailing list, and be sure to follow us on social media.

Volunteer stories

Stories are the heart of London’s Lifelines. We are looking to grow the Lifelines community during Volunteers’ Week with brand new stories.

Team London Ambassadors

Our first story is with team Team London Ambassadors – a network of incredible volunteers who help out at some of London’s biggest events.

Monice – Literacy Pirates

This story is from Monice, a volunteer at Literacy Pirates. This amazing charity helps young people to develop their literacy skills. Take a look!

If you are a volunteer, upload your story to our website here and we will add it to our Stories page. Telling inspiring stories from volunteers is the best way to get others involved – volunteer a few moments of your time to make London stronger.

For more information on uploading stories, see this document.

What’s going on?

The Big Help Out

Volunteers’ Week coincides with The Big Help Out, an opportunity to reach out to your local volunteering groups and get involved in a weekend of fun volunteering activities!

A great place to start is to contact your local Volunteer Centre, which can help you to find the right volunteering opportunity for you.

Events

Wellbeing Walk – This Volunteers’ Week walk is a great opportunity to connect with other volunteers and take care of your physical and mental health.

Volunteer Centre Hackney – If you volunteer in Hackney, this event is designed as a ‘thank you’ for all the volunteering you have done in the past year.
